 Common Causes of Elbow Pain

The elbow is a complex joint with muscles, ligaments, tendons, and bones that work together to enable a wide range of motions. When something goes wrong in this area, it can lead to pain, discomfort, and functional limitations.

  • Tennis Elbow (Lateral Epicondylitis)
Tennis elbow is one of the most common causes of elbow pain. It occurs when the tendons on the outside of the elbow become inflamed due to overuse, often from repetitive gripping or wrist movements. This condition is common in those who perform repetitive motions at work, like typing or using hand tools.

  • Golfer’s Elbow (Medial Epicondylitis)
Golfer’s elbow is similar to tennis elbow but affects the tendons on the inside of the elbow. It’s caused by repetitive stress on the forearm muscles and tendons, often seen in sports like golf or weightlifting.
  • Fractures
Fractures in the elbow can occur as a result of trauma, such as falls, car accidents, or sports injuries. Fractures typically require immediate medical attention and physiotherapy to regain full function during the rehabilitation process.

  • Arthritis
Osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and other forms of arthritis can affect the elbow joint, leading to pain, swelling, and limited range of motion.
