Suffering from shoulder pain?
Physiotherapy for shoulder pain
Shoulder pain is a very common complaint that physiotherapists treat — and for good reason. Whether you’re an athlete, office worker, or busy parent, your shoulders play a key role in nearly every movement you make. When pain strikes, it can interfere with your work, sleep, and day-to-day life.
The shoulder is one of the most mobile joints in the body, which makes it vulnerable to injury and dysfunction.
Some common causes of shoulder pain include:
- Rotator Cuff Injuries
The rotator cuff is a group of muscles and tendons that stabilize the shoulder. Overuse, strain, or tears (partial or complete) in these tendons can cause pain, weakness, and reduced range of motion. - Shoulder Impingement
This occurs when the structures within the shoulder joint become inflamed. Rotator cuff tendons can be pinched during shoulder movements, often causing sharp pain when lifting the arm overhead.
- Dislocations and Instability
Shoulder dislocations can occur from trauma or repetitive strain. In some cases, the shoulder may feel unstable or “loose,” especially during activity. - Postural Strain
Poor posture, especially from prolonged desk work or phone use, can lead to muscular imbalances and tension in the neck and shoulder region. - Frozen Shoulder (Adhesive Capsulitis)
This condition causes stiffness and a gradual loss of shoulder motion, often without a clear cause. It typically progresses in stages over several months.
